How to schedule Reddit posts without breaking a subreddit's rules
Reddit is the one network where a scheduled post can fail for reasons that have nothing to do with the post: a subreddit that only takes links, a flair it requires, a rule against self-promotion. This is how to schedule Reddit posts in SPREVA, and how to keep them welcome once they are up.

The short version
Connect your Reddit account, write a title of up to 300 characters with a text, a link, an image or a video, type the subreddit, add its flair if it uses one, and schedule it or add it to a queue. SPREVA checks the subreddit's name and the post before it goes. The subreddit's own rules are applied by Reddit when the post is published, and if Reddit refuses it, SPREVA tells you why in plain words.
What a Reddit post can be
Every Reddit post has a title, up to 300 characters, and one of these:
- Text, up to 40,000 characters.
- A link, with no text of its own.
- One image, up to 20 MB.
- One video, up to 15 minutes, with a poster image you choose from your library, shown until the video is ready.
Scheduling a Reddit post, step by step
- 1
Press New in the sidebar, choose Post, then Text Post, Image Post or Video Post, and pick your Reddit account.
- 2
Write the title, which Reddit requires, and the text, the link or the file.
- 3
In the Reddit settings, type the Subreddit without spaces, like webdev.
- 4
If the subreddit uses flairs and you know the one to use, add its Flair ID, and its text where the subreddit allows it.
- 5
Mark it as NSFW or as a spoiler when it is one. Notify me of replies is on, so you hear when people answer.
- 6
Schedule it, or Add to queue.
Each subreddit has its own rules
SPREVA cannot read a subreddit's rules ahead of time; Reddit applies them when the post is published. When it refuses, the post says why, for example:
- The subreddit does not allow text posts, or link posts.
- The subreddit requires a flair.
- This account is not allowed, or is temporarily restricted from posting there.
So read the rules in the subreddit's sidebar before you schedule: which kinds of post it takes, whether it needs a flair, and when it allows posts about your own work.
Posting so the post stays up
Communities on Reddit remove posts that read like ads, scheduled or not:
- Write the title for the community, as a member would: the question, the finding, the thing you made.
- Give more than you link. Most subreddits expect you to take part, not only to post your own links.
- Schedule for the community's hours, which may not be yours.
- Be there for the replies. The first hour of comments decides most posts; Notify me of replies tells you when they start.
One post, several subreddits
Each Reddit account posts to one subreddit per post. To post to several, make a copy of the post for each one, with a title written for that community: the same text everywhere is what moderators remove first. If Reddit is slow to answer, SPREVA checks your recent posts for the same title in the same subreddit before trying again, so a retry does not post it twice.
What comes back
Each post's score and number of comments come back into SPREVA, an hour after it goes out and then over the following month.
Schedule your next Reddit post
Connect your Reddit account, read the rules of the subreddit you post to most, and schedule your next post for its busiest hour. Every plan starts with a 7-day trial.
Questions
Can I schedule Reddit posts?
Yes. Publish now, choose a date and time, or add the post to a queue that fills your next free slot. SPREVA publishes it at that time by itself, so nothing has to stay open on your computer.
Can I post to several subreddits at once?
Yes. Connect as many Reddit accounts as you use, and choose a different subreddit for each in the same post. With one account, make a copy of the post for each subreddit.
Can I set a flair on a Reddit post?
Yes, on a subreddit that uses one: give its ID and, where the subreddit allows custom flair text, that too.
Can I post a video to Reddit?
Yes, as a video post: one video of up to 15 minutes, with the poster image you choose shown until it is ready.
Does SPREVA check a subreddit's rules?
It checks the subreddit's name and the post itself. The subreddit's rules are applied by Reddit when the post goes out, and if Reddit refuses it, SPREVA shows the reason.
