How to schedule an Instagram carousel, and reuse it on other networks
A carousel is the most tedious Instagram post to put together on a phone: ten photos, picked and ordered on a small screen, with the caption typed by thumb. This is how to build it on your computer, schedule it, and send the same photos to LinkedIn, Threads and TikTok while you are at it.

The short version
Choose Image Post, pick your Instagram account, add up to 10 photos and drag them into order, write the caption and a first comment if you like, and schedule it or add it to a queue. SPREVA sends each photo as a JPEG of the size Instagram takes, waits until Instagram has processed every one, and only then publishes the carousel: never half of it.
Scheduling a carousel, step by step
- 1
Press New in the sidebar, choose Post, then Image Post, and pick your Instagram account.
- 2
Add the photos, up to 10, from your computer or from the library. Several images become a carousel.
- 3
Drag them into order in the row under the caption. The first one is the cover: the one people see in the feed and on your profile.
- 4
Write the caption, up to 2,200 characters, and a First comment for the hashtags if you want them out of the caption.
- 5
Check the preview, then Schedule it, or Add to queue.
A carousel that gets swiped
The order is the whole craft of a carousel:
- The strongest picture first. It is the only one people see before they decide to swipe.
- One shape for all of them, square or 4:5. Instagram shows the whole carousel in the first picture's shape, so a different one gets cropped.
- A story in order: before, during, after; or the problem, the steps, the result.
- A last picture with a job: the offer, the date, where to find you.
What SPREVA checks, and why it never posts half
Before anything goes out:
- Up to 10 photos, each up to 8 MB as you uploaded it.
- PNG and other formats are sent as JPEG, which is what Instagram takes; you are told when that happens.
- Photos from an iPhone in HEIC need exporting as JPEG first.
At its time, Instagram processes every photo before the carousel is put together. If it cannot process one of them, the carousel is not published at all: the post says which went wrong, and you fix it and retry. A carousel with a missing photo never reaches your profile.
The same photos on other networks
Pick other accounts in the same post and each network takes the photos its own way:
| Network | Photos in one post |
|---|---|
| Up to 20 | |
| Threads | Up to 20, as a carousel |
| Up to 10 | |
| TikTok | Up to 35, as a photo post |
| A carousel of 2 to 5 | |
| X and Bluesky | Up to 4 |
SPREVA checks each network on its own. When a post has more photos than a network takes, that account shows an error in Checks before you can schedule, and Use different media gives it fewer photos of its own, along with its own text under Per account.
What comes back
Each carousel's views, reach, likes, comments, shares and saves come back into SPREVA an hour after it goes out, then over the following month.
Schedule this week's carousel
Connect your professional Instagram account, put ten photos in order on your computer and schedule them, with the same photos on LinkedIn and Threads. Every plan starts with a 7-day trial.
Questions
How many photos can an Instagram carousel have?
Up to 10. SPREVA checks the count and every file before the post goes out.
Which photo is the carousel's cover?
The first one. Drag the photo you want people to see first to the front of the row.
Can I mix photos and videos in a carousel?
Not from the editor yet: an Image Post is photos only. For a video, schedule a Reel instead.
Does the alt text of my photos reach Instagram?
Not yet. Add it by editing the post in Instagram once it is out. Which networks receive alt text.
Can I schedule a carousel on a personal account?
No. Instagram lets apps publish only to professional accounts, Business or Creator, and switching is free in Instagram's settings.
