How to schedule Instagram Reels, from the video to the cover

A Reel is usually ready long before the moment it should go out. This is how to schedule it so it goes out on its own: the video, its cover, the caption and the first comment, and the same video on TikTok and YouTube while you are at it.

The short version

Connect your professional Instagram account, choose Video Post, add the vertical video and pick Reel for the account. Set the cover frame, write the caption, put the hashtags in the first comment if you prefer, and schedule it or add it to a queue. At that time Instagram fetches the video, SPREVA waits until Instagram has processed it, and the Reel is published.

A Reel ready to schedule

Three things to settle before the video leaves your editor:

  • Vertical, 9:16. 1080 by 1920 pixels fills the screen. SPREVA warns about another shape but does not stop it.
  • From 3 seconds to 15 minutes, and up to 1 GB.
  • The words and the music already in the video. Sounds from Instagram's library and its text tools cannot be added by apps.

Scheduling a Reel, step by step

  1. 1

Press New in the sidebar, choose Post, then Video Post, and pick your Instagram account.

  2. 2

In the account's row, choose Reel.

  3. 3

Add the video: from your computer, from the library, or a clip you made in Studio.

  4. 4

Set the Cover frame, in seconds into the video: the frame people see on your profile before they tap.

  5. 5

Write the caption, up to 2,200 characters, and add a First comment for the hashtags if you want them out of the caption.

  6. 6

Check the preview, then Schedule it, or Add to queue.

What happens at its time

SPREVA hands Instagram the video, Instagram fetches and processes it, and SPREVA checks every few seconds until it is ready, then publishes it. Every Reel also appears in your feed. The first comment goes up right after; if only the comment fails, the Reel stays published and you are told.

From one long video to a week of Reels

Studio cuts vertical clips from a long recording: up to 10 at a time, from 3 seconds to 3 minutes each, with the captions burned in. A finished export has Create post, which opens the editor with the video already attached. Studio is on Pro and Business.

The same video on TikTok and YouTube

Pick your TikTok and YouTube accounts in the same post: TikTok takes it as a video, and YouTube shows a vertical video of three minutes or less as a Short. Give each its own text under Per account. How to schedule TikTok videos.

What comes back

Each Reel's views, reach, likes, comments, shares and saves come back into SPREVA an hour after it goes out, then after six hours, a day, three days, a week and a month.

What to add in Instagram

SPREVA does not add music from Instagram's library, collaborators, a location or tagged people yet, and it does not post trial Reels. A location and tagged people can be added by editing the Reel in Instagram once it is out.

Schedule next week's Reels

Connect your professional account, add three vertical videos, set their covers and schedule them, or add them to a queue. Every plan starts with a 7-day trial.

Questions

Can I schedule Instagram Reels?

Yes. Choose Reel for the account in the editor, then publish now, pick a date or add the post to a queue.

Will the Reel also show in my feed?

Yes. SPREVA shares every Reel to your feed as well.

Can I upload a custom cover image for a Reel?

Not yet: the cover is a frame of the video, chosen in seconds.

Can I add music from Instagram's library?

No: apps cannot add sounds from Instagram's library. Put the music in the video before you upload it.

Do I need a professional Instagram account?

Yes. Instagram lets apps publish only to Business and Creator accounts, and switching is free in Instagram's settings.
