How to schedule Snapchat Stories and Spotlight videos from your computer

Snapchat is made for posting from the phone, in the moment. A creator or a brand plans the week, though, and the videos are finished on a computer. This is how to schedule Snapchat Stories and Spotlight videos in SPREVA from your public profile, and what each one asks of the video.

The short version

Connect your Snapchat public profile, choose Video Post, add a vertical video of up to a minute, and choose where it goes: your public Story, for a day up to a week, or Spotlight, with a description of up to 160 characters. Schedule it or add it to a queue. SPREVA posts it at that time, follows Spotlight's review until the video is live, and brings the views back.

You need a public profile

Snapchat lets apps publish to public profiles, the profiles creators and businesses use, not to a personal account. Sign in with Snapchat when you connect and allow SPREVA to post to your public profile. If the login you use has none, create a public profile in the Snapchat app, then connect again. Each public profile is an account of its own in SPREVA.

Story or Spotlight

One post goes to one of two places, chosen under Placement:

PlacementWhere it showsLengthText

Scheduling a snap, step by step

  1. 1

Press New in the sidebar, choose Post, then Video Post, and pick your Snapchat profile.

  2. 2

Add one vertical video, from your computer or the library.

  3. 3

Under Placement, choose Story or Spotlight.

  4. 4

For a Story, choose how long it stays up under Visible for. For Spotlight, write the description and check its Language.

  5. 5

Schedule it, or Add to queue.

What the video needs

SPREVA checks the video against Snapchat's rules before it goes, so nothing is refused at the last minute:

  • Vertical, 9:16. Another shape is allowed, with a warning, but it will not fill the screen.
  • At least 540 × 960 pixels, and up to 1 GB.
  • 5 to 60 seconds for a Story, 6 to 60 for Spotlight.
  • Words in the picture for a Story: Snapchat shows no caption there, so a title or captions belong in the video itself.

Spotlight's review

Snapchat reviews every Spotlight video before it goes live. SPREVA sends it at the time you chose, then keeps checking, often at first and then every quarter of an hour, until Snapchat says it is live or has not accepted it. If it is not accepted, the post says so: check Snapchat's Spotlight guidelines, edit the post and publish it again.

One vertical video, everywhere

The video you post to Snapchat is the one TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts want too. Send it to all of them in one post, with its own text for each under Per account, and Snapchat as a Story or on Spotlight. How to schedule Instagram Reels, from the video to the cover.

What comes back

For Spotlight, SPREVA brings back views, unique viewers, shares, favorites and watch time; for a Story, views, viewers, shares, swipe-ups and watch time; and your profile's subscribers. They are read an hour after the video goes out, then over the following month.

Schedule your next snap

Connect your public profile, add this week's vertical videos and put them in a queue, a Story on the days you post and Spotlight for the ones made to travel. Every plan starts with a 7-day trial.

Questions

Can I schedule Snapchat Stories?

Yes. Choose Story as the placement, set how long it stays up, and publish now, on a date or through a queue. SPREVA posts it at that time by itself, so nothing has to stay open on your phone.

Can I post from a personal Snapchat account?

No. Snapchat lets apps post only to public profiles. Create one in the Snapchat app, then connect it.

Can I schedule a photo to Snapchat?

Not yet. SPREVA posts videos to Snapchat, to your Story or to Spotlight.

Why does my text not show on my Story?

Snapchat shows no caption on a Story. The text stays with the post in SPREVA; put the words in the video itself.

Can SPREVA remove a Story?

No. Snapchat does not let apps remove a Story snap; remove it in the Snapchat app.
