How to schedule the first comment on Instagram, and the first reply on Threads

The first comment under your own post is prime space: the hashtags that would clutter the caption, the question that starts the conversation, the credits for the people in the photo. Posting it by hand means being there the minute the post goes out. This is how to schedule the first comment on Instagram, and the first reply on Threads, with the post itself.

The short version

Write the post in SPREVA, choose your Instagram account, and in the Instagram settings write the First comment. Schedule the post. When it goes live, SPREVA posts the comment under it straight away, from the same account. On Threads, the same field becomes the first reply.

What the first comment is for

Most accounts use it for one of these:

  • Hashtags, kept out of the caption so it reads cleanly.
  • A question that invites the first replies: which one would you pick, what would you add.
  • Credits: the photographer, the venue, the people who made it.
  • The details that do not fit the caption: sizes, prices, times, where to find it.

Scheduling it, step by step

  1. 1

Press New in the sidebar, choose Post, then Image Post for a photo or a carousel, or Video Post for a Reel.

  2. 2

Choose your Instagram account and write the caption.

  3. 3

Open the account's settings and write the First comment, up to 2,200 characters. With AI on, Suggest a comment with AI offers three from your caption.

  4. 4

Schedule it, or Add to queue.

When the comment goes out

SPREVA posts the comment as soon as Instagram says the post is live, after a Reel has finished processing. The comment comes from your account, so it reads as yours, first under the post.

If the post goes out and the comment does not, the post stays up and its page tells you: published, with the first comment as the step that did not complete, and why. Add it by hand in the app.

Hashtags: caption or first comment?

Instagram reads hashtags in either place, so choose by how the post reads: in the caption they sit with the words, in the first comment the caption stays short and clean. Either way, a few hashtags that describe the post do more than a long list that describes everything. Character limits for every social network in 2026.

On Threads, the first reply

Threads has no comments, only replies, so on Threads the same field posts a reply under your post, up to 500 characters. Use it for a link, a source, or the second half of a thought. How to schedule Threads posts, carousels and a first reply.

And the other networks

On X, a text longer than one post becomes a thread instead. Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and Bluesky have no first comment in SPREVA yet; add it in the app after the post is up.

Schedule your next post with its comment

Take the next post in your queue, move its hashtags or its question into the first comment, and let both go out together. Every plan starts with a 7-day trial.

Questions

Up to 2,200 characters on Instagram and 500 on Threads, checked before the post goes out.

Can I schedule a first comment on Facebook or LinkedIn?

Not yet. In SPREVA the first comment is for Instagram, and the first reply for Threads.
