How to clip your Twitch stream from chat with !clip
The moment worth keeping happens while your hands are on the game. One word typed in your own chat is about all you can spare. This is how to make that word save the last minute of your stream, and where the clip goes.

The short version
Connect your Twitch channel to SPREVA and turn on Save clips from chat. While you are live, you or a moderator type !clip in the chat, with a few words after it if you want to name the clip. Twitch makes a clip of up to the last 60 seconds, SPREVA saves the video to your media library, and a short reply in chat says it worked.
What happens when you type it
One line in chat sets four things going:
- Twitch makes the clip. Up to the last 60 seconds of the stream, the longest clip Twitch makes. It is a normal clip on your channel, so it is public on Twitch like any other.
- SPREVA saves the file. The horizontal video goes into a Twitch clips folder in your media library shortly after.
- The words become its name.
!clip insane clutchsaves a file called insane clutch. With no words, the clip takes the title of your stream. - Chat gets an answer. A reply under the message says the clip was saved, or why it was not.
Turning it on, step by step
- 1
Open Social Accounts and connect your Twitch channel. Twitch asks you to approve SPREVA to send chat messages, read your chat and make clips.
- 2
Open the channel's page in SPREVA and find Clips from chat.
- 3
Turn on Save clips from chat. It stays off until you do.
- 4
Choose Who can clip: you and your moderators, or VIPs and subscribers as well.
- 5
Go live and type
!clip. The clip appears in your media library, and a notification in SPREVA takes you to it.
Where the clip goes
Each clip is an ordinary video in your library, with a small Twitch mark on it. Open it and you see where it came from: the stream's title, the game, who clipped it, how far into the stream that was, the words typed in chat, and a link to the clip on Twitch.
From there it behaves like any upload. Move it, tag it, press Use in new post to publish the horizontal video as it is, or press Make a short to open it in Studio as a vertical video with your camera on top and the game below.

What it will not do
Four limits, each there on purpose:
- Only while you are live. Typed with the stream offline,
!clipgets a reply saying there is nothing to clip. - One clip every 20 seconds. A second
!clipstraight after the first is ignored, so one great moment does not become five copies of it. - Not for everyone in chat. A viewer who is not on your list gets no clip and no reply.
- Twitch only, and not whole VODs. For a longer stretch, download the recording and upload the part you want to cut from.
Clip tonight's stream
Connect your Twitch channel, turn on Save clips from chat, and type !clip the next time something happens. Saving clips works on every plan, and every plan starts with a 7-day trial.
Questions
How long is a clip saved with !clip?
Up to 60 seconds, the longest clip Twitch makes. It ends around the moment the command was typed, so it holds what just happened.
Is the clip public on Twitch?
Yes. It is a normal Twitch clip on your channel. The copy in your SPREVA library is yours to edit and post elsewhere.
Can my moderators use !clip?
Yes, without any setup. You can also let VIPs and subscribers use it. Anyone else who types it is ignored.
Do I need a chat bot?
No. SPREVA hears the command through your own connected channel, and the reply comes from your account.
Which plan do I need?
Saving clips works on every plan and counts towards your storage. Turning a clip into a vertical short happens in Studio, on Pro and Business.
